Denise van Outen has admitted she was once due to embark on a secret date with racing car driver and Formula 1 star Eddie Irvine, but she stood him up.
The 47 year old former Big Breakfast presenter initially shared that a mystery celebrity had repeatedly tried asking her to go out with him during her appearance on Steph’s Packed Lunch on Monday.
Now the star, who is continuing to move on from her break-up from Eddie Boxshall, has had gone all the way into revealing the story, as she explained the 56 year old Grand Prix star Eddie Irvine first approached her several years ago.
Eventually giving in to a date with the suave ladies’ man, Denise cheekily planned to play an April Fool’s Day joke on him instead, as he she wanted to make him realise that not everyone “fancied him”.
At the time, the mum-of-one, who shares daughter Betsy, 11, with ex Lee Mead, was living in Los Angeles, California, while Eddie was residing in New York, but he didn’t realise and instead turned up to a restaurant in Manhattan expecting to see the blonde beauty in person.
"There was this very famous Formula 1 driver…this was a few years ago. Should I name him? Eddie Irvine,” Denise told Steph McGovern on her Channel 4 show.
"He was a bit of a one with the ladies and just thought that every woman he met fancied him.
“He kept asking me out when I lived in Los Angeles,” the star continued. “And I thought, 'I'm just going to pretend that I'm going to meet him for a date'."
The TV personality, who recently split from her longtime fiancé Boxshall after reportedly discovering he had been secretly talking to other women, admitted her actions had been “really quite naughty” to lead the racing car driver on.
Despite her antics they carried on talking as Eddie took the prank on the chin.
"He booked a restaurant and I said, 'Yeah, I'll be there…’” Denise continued as she recalled the moment on the Channel 4 show.
She explained: "I had a friend who was living in New York and I said, 'Please, please just go to the restaurant just so I know he's there'.
“She messaged me and said, 'He's here, he's sat at the table'. He was sat there for ages!”

Denise remembered how Eddie had asked her to give an update on her estimated time of arrival, to which the star said she was “stuck in traffic”.
She then teased him she would be “about five hours” because she was actually gridlocked in LA, and revealed she had simply been playing an April Fool’s Joke on the flirtatious sports star.
Denise cringed as she admitted she received “joking” messages of abuse back from Eddie, and Steph scolded her for being “really mean”.
"I know…but he did sort of deserve it though!" the presenter insisted with a laugh.
