Bruce is a guest on The Graham Norton Show tonight on BBC One at 10:35pm. The ‘Thunder Road’ singer will feature alongside his friend and 44th US President Barack Obama to talk about their podcast and book ‘Renegades: Born in the USA’. The star-studded line-up also sees legendary actor Dame Judi Dench and her co-star Jamie Dornan join Graham to discuss their much anticipated upcoming film ‘Belfast’.

Hollywood icon Salma Hayek will also appear on the show to talk about her Marvel debut in ‘Eternals’, where she is part of an all-star cast including Angelina Jolie and Kit Harington.

Completing the eclectic lineup of guests is rapper-turned-presenter Tinie Tempah, who will be promoting new show Extraordinary Extensions, while Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson will perform her new single Boyz.

Bruce, who has released 20 studio albums, shot to international fame with his third record ‘Born to Run’ in 1975.

He then solidified himself as one of America’s most successful musical exports in the Eighties when he released ‘Born in the U.S.A’ in 1984, which sold over 30 million copies worldwide.

At the height of his fame, Bruce married actor and model Julianne in 1985, whom he described in his autobiography as “24, tall, blonde, educated, talented, a beautiful and charming young woman.”

However the two ultimately divorced just four years later with Julianne insisting upon a no-talk divorce settlement so she could focus on her work.

In his 2016 autobiography, Bruce admitted he had an affair with Patti Scialfa, who he later went on to marry.

In light of his relationship with Patti, the singer said he tried to convince himself that Julianne was merely attracted to him for his fame.

He said: “One evening, while I sat across from my beautiful wife in an upscale Los Angeles eatery, a conversation formed silently inside my head.

“There, as we politely chatted by candlelight, hand in hand, a part of me tried to convince myself she was simply using me to further her career or to get […] something.”

He added: “Nothing could have been further from the truth.

Julianne loved me and didn’t have an exploitative bone or malicious bone in her body.

“Inside, I knew that, but I was out where the buses don’t run and couldn’t centre myself around the truth.”

He came clean of his affair with Patti, who had been part of the E Street Band since 1984 and was closer to his age.

Bruce admitted he handled his separation “abysmally” and caused “pain” when the news leaked to the press.

He said: “I came clean to Julie as soon as I knew how serious Patti and I were, but there was no decent or graceful way out of it.

“I was going to hurt someone I loved ‒ period.

“I dealt with Julie’s and my separation abysmally, insisting it remain a private affair, so when we released no press statement, causing furore, pain and ‘scandal’ when the news leaked out.

“I made a tough thing more heartbreaking than necessary.”

The rock star added: “Julianne was young, just getting her career started, while at thirty-five, I could seem accomplished, reasonably mature and in control, but, inside, I was still emotionally stunted and secretly unavailable.

“I placed her in a terribly difficult position for a young girl and I failed her as a husband and a partner.”

Bruce started living with Patti in New Jersey shortly after his separation with Julianne in the spring of 1988.

The couple married in 1991 and have three children together.
