Alesha Dixon calls for Jeremy Clarkson to be ‘muzzled’ after Meghan Markle column

Alesha Dixon has blasted Jeremy Clarkson for his comments directed towards Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex.

The Sun recently published a now-deleted column by the 62 year old TV presenter – his current shows include Clarkson's Farm, The Grand Tour and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? – furiously condemning the 41 year old American, who now lives in Montecito with her husband Prince Harry and kids, Archie and Lilibet.

"I hate her on a cellular level," it read. "At night, I’m unable to sleep as I lie there, grinding my teeth and dreaming of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, 'Shame!' and throw lumps of excrement at her."

This was in response to the release of Netflix's eye-opening docuseries Harry & Meghan.

Stopping by the This Morning studio for a catch-up with presenters Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle today, Alesha, 44, wished everyone tuning in a merry Christmas before wrapping up with this brief declaration: "And Jeremy Clarkson needs to be muzzled, that's my sign-off for the day."

Josie, 37, couldn't contain her amusement while Craig, 52, fumbled for any kind of reply.

In light of the media storm he's created through this column – over 12,000 complaints have been issued to The Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) – Jeremy has tweeted an apology.

“Oh dear. I’ve rather put my foot in it," wrote Jeremy. "In a column I wrote about Meghan, I made a clumsy reference to a scene in Game Of Thrones and this has gone down badly with a great many people.

"I’m horrified to have caused so much hurt and I shall be more careful in future."

A statement on The Sun’s website said: “In light of Jeremy Clarkson’s tweet he has asked us to take last week’s column down.”

Meanwhile, Scotland's First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, spoke out against Jeremy during a press conference today, describing his words as "beyond the pale".

"I think what he said about Meghan Markle was deeply misogynist and just downright awful and horrible," she pointed out. "I have to say, taking a step back from it, my overwhelming emotion about guys like Jeremy Clarkson is pity.

"I mean, what is it that makes somebody so distorted by hate that they end up writing these things? I think that possibly gives an insight into Jeremy Clarkson and the kind of person he is.

"So maybe he just needs to take a step back from things and just think about life a bit more."
