Sex And The City’s fights… including SJP and Kim Cattrall’s iconic row, writers’ room rage and stylish spats
Earlier this week, disgraced Sex And The City star Chris Noth denied claims he is at war with his co-stars in the wake of a sexual assault scandal.
In 2021, the star, who played Mr Big, was accused of sexually assaulting two women, after which his former co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis took to Instagram to tell the world they stood with his alleged victims.
Now, after an American newspaper reported that Chris, 68, had been ‘iced out’ by the women following the allegations, the star spoke out in defiance, as he shared the article on Instagram and wrote: ‘I usually don’t respond to this kind of thing.
‘And I do know that people like drama and gossip…but this article is absolute nonsense. Just thought you’d like to know.’
And while Chris insists there is no behind-the-scenes tension with his former colleagues, elsewhere, behind the scenes tension has become synonymous with the whole show, as the franchise has been plagued with controversy.
So from Sarah’s iconic feud with ex-SATC star Kim Cattrall to beef in the writers’ room over storylines, we take a look at the show’s most explosive civil wars…

CAT(TRALL) FIGHT
Diva Sarah Jessica Parker and her co-star Kim Cattrall have been at each other’s throats for years after starring in TV series Sex And The City together.
The pair have been embroiled in a public feud for a while – with Kim calling Sarah names like ‘cruel’ and ‘toxic’ over the years – and many people believe that’s why she didn’t want to participate in And Just Like That…
When they were shooting out of town, they would stay in different hotels. There was no girly exchange of gossip while they were all having their make-up done.
SCRAPS AND THE CITY: HOW DID KIM AND SARAH’S FEUD BEGIN?
May 2008: SJP defended Kim when she was asked whether she supported her decision to delay the filming of the first SATC movie due to salary disputes
December 2009: Kim and Cynthia Nixon attend SJP’s premier for Did You Hear About The Morgans? in a show of support and SJP tells Elle that she wouldn’t have done the SATC film without Kim
January 2010: In an interview with the Mail, Kim expressed her exasperation over the never-ending feud rumours saying ‘People don’t want to believe that we get on’
May 2010: Kim admits that ‘sometimes feelings get hurt’ during grueling filming hours due to the amount of time the women spent together
August 2016: SJP wishes Kim a happy 60th birthday and addresses her as her ‘old friend’
October 2016: Kim once again defends feud rumours but admits not every day working together is easy or perfect
September 2017: SJP confirmed a third SATC movie… and then announced it was happening
Willie Garson, who played Carrie’s BFF Stan tweeted, ‘Disappointed for all crew holding on for negotiations to conclude for their jobs, and of course, for the fans. Leave it at that. #Truth.’
October 2017: Kim Tells Piers Morgan that SJP ‘could have been nicer’ about the SATC 3 demise
February 2018: Kim blasts ‘cruel’ SJP and says she is not a friend nor family to her
The reasons were many; over the years arguments raged over everything from status and money to the amount of nudity in love scenes.
Last year, Kim, 65, revealed to Variety she had decided not to take part in a planned third movie after seeing her character’s lack of progression, and said co-stars Sarah, Cynthia and Kristin ‘aren’t my friends.’
In response Sarah, 57, opened up for the first time about their alleged feud, claiming that it was not Kim who turned down the film, but the studio, because they could not accept her ‘demands.’
Speaking candidly to Awards Chatter podcast, the actress, who plays Carrie Bradshaw in the franchise, said ‘it’s very hard’ to talk about the situation.
Sarah described her former co-star’s portrayal of self-proclaimed ‘try-sexual’ Samantha Jones as ‘wonderful’ and branded Kim ‘a huge contributor to the success.’
‘There just isn’t anybody else who has talked about me in this way, so it’s very painful because she’s a huge contributor to the success.
‘I think her portrayal of that role was wonderful and it filled out everything. There were four points on the picture and they were all important.’
In 2018, Sarah shared a post on social media read: ‘Dearest Kim, my love and condolences to you and yours and Godspeed to your beloved brother. Xx’
She was responding to the announcement by her former Sex And The City co-star, that Kim’s brother, Chris, 55, had been found dead on his farm in Canada.
Kim responded with a furious attack. Writing on Instagram, she said: ‘My Mom asked me today ‘When will that @sarahjessicaparker, that hypocrite, leave you alone?’
‘Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now. Let me make this VERY clear (if I haven’t already). You are not my family.
‘You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.’
She linked her post to a 2017 newspaper story headlined: ‘Inside the mean-girls culture that destroyed Sex And The City.’
Now, further confusion has been cast over the row, as Samantha is making a comeback – for just one scene – that Kim insisted on filming entirely separately to her co-stars in the wake of her adamant vows she would not return.

STYLISH SLAMMING
In 2021, costume designer Patricia Field slammed Cynthia over her fashion demands when asked about her former assistant Molly Rogers’ work styling the cast on HBO Max’s And Just Like That.
The Oscar nominee, 79, didn’t mince her words when she admitted she ‘liked some of it, but not all of it’, adding ‘but I know what Molly’s dealing with’ during an interview with the Sunday Times.
Doubling down, she said: ‘I know those gals! Sarah Jessica [Parker] thinks she knows everything – and she does…
‘Cynthia Nixon thinks she knows everything – and she doesn’t! Even today, when I speak with Molly, it’s about Cynthia. I say, “I remember what you are going through.”
For her work on Sex And The City, Patricia was nominated for five Emmy Awards, win one win and six Costume Designers Guild Awards, with four wins.
She went on to return as costume designer for the Sex And The City movie (2008) and the sequal (2010), however she was unable to reprise her role for the reboot due to her Emily In Paris commitments.
Aside from her slights on Cynthia, she has also pledged her allegiance to Kim.
Speaking about her absence from the popular series, Field said: ‘It is a vacuum. I hear it everywhere. Everyone is mad she won’t be in it.’
The two-time Emmy winner gushed: ‘I would love to do a show with [Kim].’

We miss you! Many might argue that AJLT lost its edge without the two-time Emmy winner and her ‘bestie’ Kim Cattrall (R, pictured September 17), who played lusty PR exec Samantha Jones in all six SATC seasons and the forgettable movie spin-offs
WRITERS’ ROOM
One of the most divisive storylines in Sex And The City history was in Season Four, Episode Four Ring a Ding Ding, in which Carrie scolds Charlotte for not offering to lend her money to buy her apartment when her building goes coop.
After Samantha and Miranda offer to loan her the money in a bid to stop her borrowing from Mr Big, Carrie rages that recently-split Charlotte does not give her the money before she eventually gives her her engagement ring to sell.
The row caused outrage among fans and it was later revealed that the storyline also caused fury behind the scenes and in the writers’ room.
In 2017, producer and writer Amy Harris said: ‘If people were p**sed and hated that Carrie did that, I’m OK with that. The biggest fight we ever got into in the writers’ room was about the money. That was a very big debate.’
Amy did insist that she held faith in Carrie that she would pay back her pal: ‘I do believe she sat down every month and wrote Charlotte a check’.
