Tourists have long been flocking to the Pura Luhur Lempuyang temple in Bali to take pictures between its impressive gates.
In fact, one of the popular Instagram photos involves standing near the temple with your reflection in the crystal clear lake waters nearby.
However, there's one small hiccup – the lake doesn't exist.
Yet if you search #gatesofheaven on Instagram your feed will be filled with images of people mastering the perfect pose between the gates, their reflection clear below.
But in a classic case of 'Instagram vs reality', these images are very much edited.
In fact, photographers achieve the effect by holding mirrors under the camera lenses and phones as they take the shot, or use nifty editing tricks to make it seem like you are posing right by the lake.
It means that tourists heading to the site have been shocked to find that there isn't any water there at all.
And while the Instagram images portray a serene, quiet spot in the Balinese hillside, in reality you'll find a long queue of tourists waiting to get their turn to take the photo between the gates.
The good news is that the temple itself is very real – and there's a reason it's hailed as one of the best temples in Bali.
One of Bali's oldest temples, the Luhur Lempuyang boasts an incredible split gate overlooking the Balinese landscape, and even without a lake it has some serious picture-perfect credentials.
To reach the temple you'll need to climb up a few stairs so make sure to don sturdy shoes and bring water with you.
As for the photo opp, be prepared to queue – these can be pretty long during peak season so head early in the morning to try and beat the crowds.
That also frees up the rest of the day to go exploring some of the other incredible things to see and do in Bali during your holiday.
