Nando's slashes prices of menu favourites as it passes on VAT cut to customers

NANDO'S fans can now get their hands on its Peri-Peri chicken for less as the fast-food chain has slashed prices thanks to a VAT cut.

The spicy chicken specialist says it'll cut prices across its entire food and drinks menu from today with the full 12.5 per cent VAT saving passed on.

The only exclusion is alcoholic beverages, which aren't subject to the VAT reduction.

Nando’s currently has 360 restaurants across the UK open for home delivery and online click and collect orders, while it recently opened a further ten for its eat-in service.

It says today's price drop will take force across eat-in, delivery and online click and collect orders.

It comes as VAT is slashed from 20 per cent to 5 per cent for businesses in the hospitality and tourism industries across the UK under measures first announced in chancellor Rishi Sunak's mini-Budget last week.

Which businesses will pass on VAT cuts?

HERE are the major businesses that have so far confirmed they'll pass on VAT cuts to consumer:

  • Accor Hotels – Ibis, Mercure, Novotel, Sofitel
  • KFC
  • Marriott
  • Park Holidays
  • Wetherspoon

And the price of a family platter of two whole chickens and five large sides will drop by £5.45 (12.4 per cent) from £43.70 to £38.25.

KFC, McDonald's and Wetherspoons are among the other high street chains to pass on VAT savings to customers.

But businesses don't have to pass on savings in full or even at all, and the Treasury says some may struggle to pass on VAT cuts having been closed for the past three months under lockdown.

Cuts to VAT come alongside the government's new Eat Out to Help Out scheme, which is offering additional savings of up to £10 a head on meals out during August.

Harvester and Pizza Hut are among the firms to sign up for this separate scheme.
