A 30-year-old man has died in a serious accident on the M6, Staffordshire Police have confirmed.
Officers have appealed for information after the fatal collision between a lorry and a pedestrian.
Emergency services attended but sadly the man died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.
Another man, the lorry driver, was treated for minor injuries before being discharged at the scene, the ambulance service said.
The accident has closed the motorway for most of the morning causing travel chaos.
Some motorists have been trapped in traffic for several hours with queues along the diversion route and delays of about 45 minutes being reported, Stoke on Trent Live reports.
Emergency services are at the scene after the motorway closure was first reported at around 3.20am this morning from J14 to J13 in the Stafford area.
The entry slip road onto the southbound carriageway at junction 14 is also closed.
And the northbound carriageway was shut along the same stretch, but this has now reopened, albeit with speed restrictions and long delays.
