Charlotte Bellamy, 47, has starred in Emmerdale since 2002, leading her character – Laurel Thomas – to become a firm favourite on the soap.

Speaking on Digital Spy's Soap Scoop podcast Chris explained that it’s been a “difficult storyline,” adding that he’s had to have “difficult conversations with both charities and with family as well.”

The storyline hasn't come without backlash however, with hundreds of viewers recently flocking to Twitter to speak out against the plot as one person wrote: "Emmerdale having a storyline where the couple decide to have an abortion after learning that the baby has Down syndrome is genuinely hideous". Charlotte is no stranger to an emotional storyline as she has been at the centre of many of the years, but what about the actress’ life away from the screen? Let’s take a look…

Who is Charlotte Bellamy?

Charlotte tends to steer clear of social media, and leads a relatively private life off-screen.

That said, she does have Twitter and occasionally posts to her 71,000 followers.

Charlotte is perhaps best known for her role as Laurel, but she has also starred in The Broker’s Man, A Touch of Frost and even EastEnders in which she was Sue Taylor.

For Emmerdale, Charlotte has won awards such as The British Soap Award for Best Actress, and the TV Choice Award for Best Soap Actress – there’s no denying she’s a real star of the small screen.

Is Charlotte Bellamy married?

The star made headlines a few years ago when she revealed she had secretly wed her long-term husband.

Mungo Denison is a 47-year-old company director, with offices in Leeds and London, and the pair are actually childhood sweethearts who have been together since the age of 18 – adorable!

She told the Sunday Mirror in 2015: “We sat there at breakfast and said to the kids, "We're getting married today", and they were like, "What"?

And despite being together from such a young age, they apparently showed no signs of getting married so their friends and family were shocked to discover they’d made things official.
