Nike Repositions Air for New Zephyr Silhouette

First featured on the Tailwind sneaker in 1978, Nike’s Air cushioning technology has been housed in the midsole of each shoe it’s adorned sine. Implemented by Phil Knight, the aim was to place air bags in the sole of sneakers to soften the impact on each step.

Now for the first time, Nike has reimagined its air technology and migrated it to the upper of its newest silhouette, the Nike Air Max Zephyr. Deploying three pods in the medial and lateral sides as well as the tongue, the brand has promised it to be the most responsive cushioning yet.

Boasting a 720 Air unit — Nike’s largest air bag to date — and a full-length midsole, the sneakers arrive in either a navy colorway with yellow accents, or a more eye-catching gray shade with pops of pink and orange.

Dropping on November 12, Nike’s Air Max Zephyr will initially be available via SNKRS, before a global release via the Nike webstore on December 2.
