Proving its focus on anime franchises after teasing a collaboration with Pokémon GO, Gucci has now released its Doraemon capsule collection to celebrate Chinese New Year 2021.
Initially teased with the Italian fashion house’s Cruise 2021 collection, the special range celebrates the titular character from Fujiko Fujio’s beloved manga/anime series. Gucci describes Doraemon< as a cat-type robot was sent from the 22nd century to help a young boy called Nobita with secret gadgets from his four-dimensional pouch. A playful character, Doraemon hates mice and loves Dorayaki, a sweet pancake.”
Comprised of over 50 items, the capsule is led by a range of coats, jackets, track pants and shorts that utilize the classic GG monogram pattern marked with an array of Doraemon motifs. Despite the bold display, Gucci maintains its signature design elements with iconic green/red stripes running down the sleeves, along the hems and to dress bags and wallets. Accompanying footwear like the Rhython and Ace sneakers, iPhone case and 40mm Dive watch are emblazoned with larger illustrations of a joyful looking Doraemon.
Priced between £140 and £3,960 GBP (approximately $189 and $5,351 USD), the Doraemon x Gucci capsule is available now online and at select Gucci locations.
For more contemporary fashion, SAINT MICHAEL recently previewed its 2nd collection and introduced new branding.
