After helping business suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic stay afloat with its “Foot the Bill” program, Vans’ most recent charitable effort saw the company give 320 computers to the Los Angeles-based School of Global Studies. Every student from grade 9-12 at the school — which is based in downtown LA — received a new Samsung Chromebook laptop plus other goodies like shoes, backpacks, hats and stickers.
Vans and giveaway partner EduCare Foundation arrived at the school in a large trailer with all the free product in tow. Even Steve Van Doren, son of Vans founder Paul Van Doren was in attendance, handing out personalized notes to students along with their laptops. As almost every student at the School of Global Studies (LASGAS for short) is at or below the poverty line and Los Angeles County schools are just now beginning to gradually resume in-person learning, the donation “makes it possible for students to remain in school [by] further closing the digital divide,” according to a Vans press release.
“Donations that go directly to the community are so important for our student population,” said LASGAS principal Christian Quintero. “I am thankful that Vans, in collaboration with EduCare, could get technology out to our students so that our school community can access the school curriculum.”
