Snapchat Will Now Enable Chatting and Video Calls on Your Desktop

Snapchat is finally allowing its users to chat and video call through the web on their desktops. Moving beyond mobile devices for the very first time since its launch all the way back in 2011, the new feature will first launch for Snapchat Plus subscribers in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand before eventually becoming accessible by the rest of the social media platform’s users.

The web app will only work with Google Chrome, so those on Apple’s Safari or Microsoft Edge will have to install Google’s browser before being able to use it. The company’s head of messaging products says that as people are using their desktops more, it made sense for Snapchat to pivot to web browser support. “We are always looking for ways to meet our community where they are,” Boyd explained. “It just felt like something that was an unmet opportunity.”
