The announcement of the Friends reunion is obviously the greatest thing to happen in 2020 and also possibly in our lives, ever.
We’re already polishing off our Spudnik costumes, slicking on our Ichiban lipstick for men and finding our lobster in preparation for the HBO Max TV special/pure nostalgia fest.
The reunion will feature reflective interviews with the cast, rather than a scripted episode and Ellen Degeneres is tipped to front the whole thing.
And while we have the cast all together again, we’ve got some serious questions about how all the characters would be getting on.
Did Ross and Rachel get all on/off again? Are Chandler and Monica still living in the ‘burbs? Is Gunther’s candle for Rachel still burning strong?
So. Many. Questions.
Do Ross and Rachel have more kids?
When we left Rachel Green and Ross Geller, they’d reunited after she decided against moving to Paris (thank God) and they were happy parents to Emma.
And now we need to know – have they had any more kids? Are they married (again)?
In Matt LeBlanc’s spin-off Joey, Joey hints that the whole gang are now married – but doesn’t refer directly to Ross and Rachel.
Ross – who also has a son, Ben, with Carol, did say he wanted more than one child with Rachel but tbh, viewers aren’t sure if they’ll even last let alone if they expand their brood.
Is Gunther still obsessed with Rachel?
From buying her cat to giving up his flat, there isn’t much Gunther hasn’t done to demonstrate his love for Rachel.
His sweet dithering nature and unrequited love for an oblivious Rachel have provided endless lols for us throughout the 10 seasons.
There were several windows of opportunity for everyone’s favourite coffee shop owner to finally declare his love for Miss Green, but now she’s back with Ross – what’s he doing with his days?
Is he still serving coffee (non-fat lattes at this point probably) at Central Perk?
What the hell happened to Ben?
In early seasons of the show, Ross’ son Ben makes all sorts of appearances – getting taught about Hannukah and learning about practical jokes from Rachel.
But as the show develops, Ben (Cole Sprouse) gets older, Emma comes into the picture and he is literally barely mentioned.
And beyond season eight? There’s no more Ben. We don’t know if he met his half-sister Emma or what.
WHAT. HAPPENED. TO. BEN.
What’s the deal with the spin-off Joey?
Matt LeBlanc’s Friends spin-off Joey leads on from the finale and sees Joey leave New York for Los Angeles to act and hang out with his sister.
Joey said he decided to move away because all his mates were moving on – but in season 10 the whole gang were adamant about staying in touch and Chandler and Monica even had a Joey room.
So, did the gang (sob) grow apart? How does he tell them all that he’s moving away? Do they lose touch?!!!
Is Emma still napping?
In an episode of season 10 (The One With The Cake), the pals get together to celebrate Emma’s first birthday. Cue a series of absolute disasters – from a crude birthday cake to most of the gang being late.
But it’s Emma’s refusal to wake up that really puts a downer on things, with Chandler complaining about her sleepiness while speaking to a video camera.
Moaning that the delay has ruled out a weekend away with Monica, he says: ‘Hi Emma. It’s the year 2020. Are you still enjoying your nap?’
Monica adds. ‘We’re Aunt Monica and Uncle Chandler, by the way – you may not recognise us because we haven’t spoken to your parents in 17 years.’
WELL, NOW IT’S 2020 so we want to quiz the cast on how Emma would be doing.
Is she still taking a nap? Does she see her aunt and uncle often? Paint us a picture guys, for the love of God.
Why didn’t Die Hard fans Ross and Joey react to Bruce Willis?
We love Friends with all our heart, but ahhhhhhhh, the plotholes.
A major one being the fact that Ross and Joey insist Die Hard is their favourite film – but fail to react when Bruce Willis makes a cameo.
That’s right, Rachel starts dating Elizabeth’s father Paul – who is played by the lead character in the action blockbuster.
But not a peep from Ross OR Joey?! Come on, guys.
Why was Rachel introduced to Chandler in the pilot?
Rachel and Chandler had quite the history in their teenage years, having crossed paths several times thanks to their mutual friends, Monica and Ross.
They had a cheeky snog at a university party one year and Rachel even witnessed Monica accidentally cutting off Chandler’s toe during one awful Geller Thanksgiving dinner.
So why, oh, why, was Rachel introduced to Chandler in the pilot episode?
When she burst into Central Perk in her bridal gown, Monica went to the trouble of telling her everyone’s names – including her old mate Chandler – and that just seems silly.
Do Phoebe and Mike start a family?
Phoebe surprised us all when she decided that actually, she did want to conform for once and get married to Mike.
They had possibly the sweetest wedding of the series when they tied the knot in the snow just outside Central Perk and Chandler gave her away at the altar.
So now that they’re betrothed and all, do they follow in their friends’ footsteps and pop out a few kids?
Phoebe’s already birthed triplets for her brother (still the most bonkers storyline of all) but does she expand her brood with Mike?
They talk about having kids at the end of the show so we need to know.
What’s everyone doing job-wise then?
Producers never actually made it clear where everyone ends up on the whole job thing in the finale.
Joey remains an actor, Mike is still a piano player, Ross is a paleontology professor and we assume Phoebe is still a masseuse.
But the rest of them?
Do Chandler and Monica find new jobs now that they’ve moved out of New York or do they commute to the city? Does one of them quit their career altogether to look after the twins?
And does Rachel quit her job after deciding against moving to Paris?
How did Monica afford the world’s biggest New York apartment?
Monica and Rachel share a giant two-bedroom apartment in Manhattan’s pricey West Village, with some estimating that it measures around 1,500 square feet.
What’s more, the gang manage to hold onto those sweet, sweet digs for a decade despite being so painfully unemployed at several points or in low-paying jobs (Rachel was a waitress for the first two seasons and an assistant for a while after).
We know they afforded it because Monica inherited it from their grandmother but STILL.
It’s never rented out at any point – no-one ever has to move in or out depending on whether they can make the rent and we just do not understand.
