The fallout from his broken engagement to Iggy Azalea seems to have left a mark on Nick Young.
Appearing on “Cold as Balls” from Kevin Hart’s Laugh Out Loud network, the 33-year-old NBA star spoke about his time with the Los Angeles Lakers, which was rocked in 2016 after then-teammate D’Angelo Russell recorded Young and questioned him about being with other women.
“When you got to the Lakers, this is where some tough times came, because we pride ourselves on relationships. You thought you had good ones, then you got f–king snitched on,” Hart said. “You find out that Russell snitched.”
The Lakers reportedly isolated Russell, who was a rookie at the time, in response to the incident, according to ESPN.
“This was a prank gone wrong and a mistake by [Russell] and he has to be held accountable, but I would hope he isn’t overly criticized for it,” a team source said at the time.
Azalea also took to Twitter in March 2016, writing, “hmm i see D Angelo Russell is trending … I actually liked his film. Thanks bro.”
Hart then asked if Russell apologized to Young immediately, to which the former Nuggets shooting guard replied, “Kind of, through a text.”
Though Hart said the media “made that matter worse.”
Young noted, “It was kind of bad.”
Azalea called off the engagement in June 2016. Two months later, Young said he was ready to forgive Russell.
“We’re teammates,” he told the Los Angeles Daily News. “It’s been so long, so it’s kind of old. We’ll be able to work it out. We’ve already been working it out. It is what it is. I can’t be mad forever.”
Their time as teammates came to an end in June 2017, as Russell was traded to the Brooklyn Nets. He recently made his NBA All-Star game debut.
As for Young, he and ex Keonna Green rekindled their romance after the athlete proposed to Azalea. They welcomed daughter Navi in October 2016.
