Jack White paid tribute to late Van Halen guitarist Eddie Van Halen by playing his Grammy-nominated hit song “Lazaretto” on “Saturday Night Live.”
The tribute was preceded by a medley of hit songs built around The White Stripes‘ “Ball and Biscuit,” Beyoncé‘s “Don’t Hurt Yourself” and Blind Willie Johnson‘s “Jesus Is Coming Soon.”
The White Stripes lead singer and guitarist did not take up any of Van Halen’s songs, saying, “I won’t even insult the man’s talent by trying to play one of his songs,” but he busted out a vibrant blue guitar that was designed by the late rock legend.
Before the show, White wrote on Instagram, “I thought it could be a nice gesture for me to use this blue Eddie van halen model guitar for one of the songs tonight on SNL.”
