Anna Duggar recently celebrated her 12th anniversary with her husband Josh Duggar. The mom of six marked the occasion with an Instagram post where she reflected on her marriage.
“12 years ago today we said, ‘I do!’ I’m so thankful for God’s grace and kindness that has continually surrounded our family! Joshua, I’m looking forward to growing old with you!” Anna, 32, captioned the photo of herself, her husband, and their children.
Anna didn’t address Josh’s past scandals in her post
Anna’s post this year was quite different from her 2019 anniversary post. In that update, she talked about the “shadows of sorrow” she and her husband had experienced during their marriage. Many fans interpreted those words as a reference to the two scandals involving her husband in 2015. That year, it was revealed he had sexually abused several of his younger siblings when he was a teen and that he had an account on the cheating website Ashley Madison.
In this year’s anniversary post, Anna didn’t allude to any difficulties in her marriage. But the controversies appeared to be on the mind of many fans, based on their comments on Instagram.
Fans say Josh is lucky to be married to Anna
Duggar family critics have long been skeptical of Josh and Anna’s marriage, and many have called on her to leave her husband. But she has stuck by her husband’s side despite his infidelity and abuse of his siblings.
While not everyone agrees with Anna’s decision not to divorce Josh, some of her nearly 1 million Instagram followers see her commitment to her marriage as an model to be emulated.
“You both inspire all struggling couples who surrender our wills to God,” one wrote.
Several other people noted that Josh was “lucky” to have Anna. One even suggested she write a book about her experience.
Was Anna Duggar planning to leave her husband?
On social media, Anna seems to have a happy marriage. But a person who claimed to be a Duggar family insider has said that five years ago, Anna was on the verge of leaving her husband. The info was revealed in a 2017 Reddit AMA.
The person said that at the time of the scandal, Josh’s parents, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar, feared Anna was preparing to divorce Josh. Apparently, they worried that if that happened, they would not be able to see their grandchildren. However, the insider said that Anna ultimately decided to stay with Josh and help him back toward his faith.
Some members of Anna’s family were on board with the idea of her splitting from Josh. In a series of candid comments on Instagram in 2015, her brother Daniel Keller slammed his sister’s husband and said he’d offered Anna a place to stay if she left Josh.
“I have told her I would pay for her to move out here w me and pay for her kidz,” he wrote, according to People. Daniel also said that his and Anna’s parents were encouraging her to stay with her husband because they were worried a divorce would be disgraceful.
“[Anna] said she’s staying where she’s at,” he added. “But I won’t stop trying to get that pig out of our family.”
