EastEnders star Lacey Turner has told of her joy at being pregnant after previously suffering several miscarriages.
Lacey, known to millions as Stacey Fowler, is now 19 weeks pregnant and she and husband Matt Kay are excited about starting a family.
But she has had 12 scans on her new baby bump after her “whole world fell to pieces” when she previously suffered two miscarriages.
Posing in OK! Magazine and showing off her bump, the 30-year-old said: “I can’t wait to nurture our baby – we’ve dreamed of having a family for so long.
“When you’ve lost babies all you care about is the heartbeat – we’ve had about 12 scans”
Lacey and Matt married in the Summer of 2017 in Ibiza and have been trying for a baby for some time.
Opening up about the difficulties and emotional pain they have suffered, Lacey said: “We’ve been pregnant twice before and lost both babies at seven weeks.
“It felt like my whole world had fallen to pieces and there’s nothing you can do apart from try and put it back together. I blamed myself thinking that I’d done something wrong. I’d think, why me? “What did I do? But, of course, I hadn’t done anything wrong – it’s all down to chromosomes and luck, really.
“Speaking to other people about it helped me. Women shouldn’t feel ashamed to talk about it as it happens to so many women.”
Lacey has been struggling with morning sickness in the first weeks of her pregnancy. She said: “Sea sick bands were my best friend. I’d only take them off to have a bath. When I was wearing them, I’d time it so I’d get up 20 minutes earlier, throw up and then drive to work. I was okay as long as I was eating constantly!”
And perhaps because of the morning sickness signs, one of her EastEnders co-stars guessed she was pregnant before she told her.
Lacey added: “Natalie Cassidy did! I said I had something to tell her and she said: ‘Don’t bother, I already know. I can tell by your face!’ To be fair, my face was grey!”
Lacey and childhood sweetheart Matt have been together since she was 15 and will welcome their new baby in mid-July.
When they married in 2017 they were asked if they would like to have children and Lacey replied: “That would be nice. Please God, we carry on the Kays!”
She then added: “I want four children,” to which new husband Matt insisted he only wanted three.
“When you have four you need to start thinking about a minivan to put them all in, whereas three you just need a car. I don’t care though; I’ll have a minivan!,” Lacey added.
When she is on Albert Square, Lacey is one of the soap’s most talented and successful actors, joining in November 2004 as one of the Slater family.
She has won a huge number of awards for her part in EastEnders including four NTAs and ten British Soap Awards.
She left the soap from 2010 until 2014, appearing in on TV in other dramas including BBC1’s Our Girl and Sky Living’s Bedlam.
