Ubisoft Massive and Lucasfilm Games Is Developing an Open-World 'Star Wars' Game

Lucasfilm Games is joining forces with Ubisoft Massive for an open-world game that takes place in a galaxy far, far away. While the gaming division of Lucasfilm was only officially redefined two days ago, the company decided to hit the ground with the forthcoming Star Wars game. This also suggests the end of EA‘s agreement with Lucasfilm on exclusively producing all Star Wars games.

Ubisoft Massive will be spearheading the development of the new Star Wars game, signing on creative director Julian Gerighty, the same person responsible for The Division 2 — the game will employ Ubisoft Massive’s game engine Snowdrop, the same one used in The Division 2. Lucasfilm Games hasn’t disclosed where the story of the upcoming Star Wars game will take players, but Gerighty has publicly stated that the game will be “totally different” from what we’re used to seeing from Ubisoft Massive. Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot similarly emphasized that the game will be “an original Star Wars adventure that is different from anything that’s been done before.” Further details remain scarce as the game appears to still be in its early stages of development.

Besides this game, Lucasfilm Games is also working on a new Indiana Jones video game with Bethesda.
