Uh, 'Jersey Shore' Star Vinny Guadagnino Says He Started The Keto Diet Craze

  • In a new interview with Us Weekly, Jersey Shore’s Vinny Guadagnino said he might be responsible for the current keto diet craze.
  • Vinny first spoke out about the keto diet on his Instagram account, @ketoguido, in 2017.
  • Actress Halle Berry is also a keto dieter, and says she’s been on the keto diet for “years.”

Let’s talk keto diet for a sec: The current weight-loss craze has actually been around for years (it was originally designed as a treatment for epilepsy). But apparently Jersey Shore’s Vinny Guadagnino thinks he’s actually responsible for the keto diet’s popularity.

In a new interview with Us Weekly, the 31-year-old star of Double Shot at Love claimed that he might actually have something to do with the current keto-craze. When asked if he’s responsible for the keto diet’s poularity, Vinny replied, “I don’t know if I am, I would love to be.”

Vinny also added that it could’ve also been a timing thing. “Or it just literally happened at the same time. But either way, I think I definitely contribute to it.”

But apparently, Vinny also has anecdotal evidence to support his keto influence: “Like, hundreds of people a week tell me, ‘My mom’s on this diet because of Vinny from Jersey Shore,'” he said. “I was, like, a launching point for people, but then they go into the keto-crazed world that exists out there.”

To be fair to Vinny, he is one of the first celebs out there to go public with her keto-dieting ways. His first-ever Instagram post as @ketoguido said that he had lost nearly 40 pounds between March 2015 and June 2016 by following a keto diet. “On a high healthy fat / keto / plant diet and I haven’t turned back,” he wrote, adding that his weight loss was “all natural through food and exercise.”

But uh, let’s not forget about Halle Berry who says she’s on the keto diet—and has been for “years.” In an Instagram post from January 2018, Halle opened up about her own keto diet. “Being diabetic most of my life, I have always had to take food very seriously. So for years, I have been following the keto or ketogenic diet,” she wrote.

If you’re like me, you can possibly reverse type 2 diabetes, you’ll experience better physical endurance, better skin and also less acne if that’s an issue. And it even helps control migraines! Halle went on to explain that, while she hates the word “diet,” she thinks of keto as a “lifestyle change, NOT A DIET,” she wrote. Halle also said the high-fat, low-carb diet may also be responsible for “slowing down [her] aging process,” and helping manage her type 2 diabetes.
